A MESSAGE TO YOU

Yes, you!

On April 25th, we celebrated Independent Bookstore Day at Stomping Grounds, and thanks to everyone who showed up and supported us, it was a great success! We gave away candy, stickers, and bookmarks, and did a gift certificate hunt with certificates ranging in value from $15 to $100. Our festivities were very well attended, and continue to get bigger every year. Especially in the age of Am*z*n, this support for our local indie bookstore means so much. Thank you all, we are more grateful than you can imagine!

Just look at these lush pieces! The colours, the matting, the frames…I’m drooling. (I don’t do the framing so I’m allowed to be a fangirl, I think.)

BOOK CLUB

Astrophysics for People in a Hurry by Neil deGrasse Tyson

Astrophysics for People in a Hurry by Neil DeGrasse Tyson is the most accessible book on physics that I've ever read. Tyson begins by explaining the scientific origin of the universe in a tone that is otherwise reserved for explaining the plot of a movie. By the end of the first chapter, you'll understand leptons, quarks, hadrons, the origin of the Sun, and how life came to exist in a universe as huge as ours. This is a book on astrophysics with no equations, chemistry, or graphs. All you need to enjoy this book is an open mind. It will leave you questioning why science seemed so complicated in school if it could have been this easy all along.
